Paper plane
Few images remain,
one,
beatific; as a hand released
paper plane is beatific
in its gentle glide

through the eyes of a young child.

This happened and my mother
with great fortitude repeated
the event three times-

She was sick with cancer
and the plane’s flight fifty steps,
bisecting a plain house garden
on a sharp hill,
which overlooked a blue bay
of exceeding grace.

Harrowing
in a child’s vision of death,
      visionary
as the fact remains-

I saw her from my dream-bridge
free of pain’s dark clutching,
(beyond my actual touching);
explaining in that instant
the depth of our goodbye.
