COLLECTED POEMS AND PAINTINGS - CD Hunter
Born to the aftermath of the blitzFor Helen
Lytham 1948,
strains of ancient Viking hymns
echo life's rebuilt regret.Touring in my feudal pram
I watched the forge of Europe die,
’till embers only shaped the dark
from hammer blows intensity.Stolen views of flying-fish
on phosphorescent sea,
we disembark in Auckland
to a raven metal cry'Das flieger!'
'Das flieger!'Nelson 1951, rain soaked night
of Autumn,
a woman murmurs,
her scalpel cut surrendered skin
sweats time's final dividend.
